April 10, 2009
WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University was unable to slow down a red-hot hitting effort by the Cameron University softball team. The Bulldogs were beaten 10-3 and 13-0 in a doubleheader Friday in Weatherford.
SWOSU, now 14-24 on the season and 6-14 in the Lone Star Conference, will conclude its 2009 season next week with a four-game series against nationally-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The two teams will play Tuesday in Weatherford followed by a doubleheader Saturday in Durant. The Tuesday game will be the final home appearance for seniors Alex Zukerman, Kaci Carpenter and Brittany Strickland.
Cameron rattled off 17 hits in the opener and took advantage of some fielding miscues by the Bulldogs to a score a number of unearned runs. SWOSU got within three runs after five innings by scoring a pair of runs to make it 6-3.
An RBI single by Raven Staats and a fielder's choice by Kristyn Shawver scored SWOSU's runs in the fifth. The Aggies answered with four runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
In the second game, the Bulldogs generated just five hits against Cameron pitcher
Carrie Harvey who won her 17th game of the season against only five defeats. The Aggies knocked out Zukerman, a Lawton native, early with a 10-run second inning to spoil her attempt to beat her hometown team.
