Softball loses to Southeastern

WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University stood its ground against fourth-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State University and gave the Savage Storm a stern challenges before losing 5-0 and 3-0 in a pair of softball games Tuesday in Weatherford. The two teams resume their series Saturday in Durant where the Bulldogs will conclude the 2009 season.
Southwestern fell to 14-26 with the losses and 6-16 in the Lone Star Conference North Division while Southeastern improved to 46-9 and 17-3.
In the first game, SWOSU's Kristyn Shawver had the Bulldogs lone hit against Southeastern starter Marjorie Johnson with a lead off single in the fourth. Johnson struck out 11 batters in five innings of work before being lifted in the final two innings. Her record improved to 21-3 on the season.
Freshman Katie Raines pitched well for SWOSU in relief of starter Alex Zukerman. Raines entered midway through the second inning. She ended the game allowing just three hits in five innings of work and only one earned run.
In the second game, SOSU got home runs from Jennifer Morales and Benita Sanchez to open a three run lead after the first three innings.
The Bulldogs had a handful of scoring opportunities in game two none better than the sixth inning when Zukerman and Sara Harwell reached base with singles. They both advanced into scoring positions before Johnson was summoned from the bullpen and recorded the last two outs of the inning, the final one by strikeout.
Jamie McAdoo got the win for SOSU going five and one-thirds inning and allowing five hits. She improved her record to 16-3. Johnson picked up her sixth save pitching the final one and two-thirds innings.
Raines again pitched the final five innings in relief of starter Kaci Carpenter. She allowed no runs and just five hits the rest of the way.
