Softball Loses Pair to MSU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Southwestern Oklahoma State University's four-game softball winning streak ended Tuesday as the Bulldogs were beaten 13-2 and 5-0 in a softball doubleheader Tuesday in Wichita Falls, Texas. The same two teams will resume the series Saturday in Weatherford with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
SWOSU's record dipped to 11-5 overall and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference North Division. Midwestern State improved to 19-3 and 2-0 in division play.
In the opener, SWOSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. Tori Joyner led off with a double and then advanced to third on a single by Kristyn Shawver. Joyner later scored on a fielder's choice bunt by Kristina Davis and Shawver later scored on a wild pitch.
The Mustangs started fast as well scoring four runs in the first and then adding eight more in the second. MSU was up 12-2 after two innings of play and were later the winner's of a game shortened to five innings because of a run rule.
Jenna Lilly got the loss her first of the season. She lasted just one inning allowing six runs and five hits before Davis came on and pitched the final three innings.
In the second game, SWOSU had a difficult time generating much offense against MSU pitcher Kristina Guiterrez. She allowed just a second-inning single by Davis and was unhittable from that point on. Guiterrez struck out 11 and walked none.
Cassie Chambless took the loss despite pitching well for SWOSU. She allowed the Mustangs 10 hits and only three of the five runs scored were earned. Her record dipped to 4-3 on the season.
