Bulldogs Extend SOSU Before Losing

October 22, 2005

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State sizzled early, cooled later, and could not regroup in time losing a hard-fought volleyball match to Southeastern Oklahoma State 22-30, 27-30, 30-27, 30-28, 15-10, Saturday in Weatherford.

The match, SWOSU’s second five-setter in three days, pushed the limits of the short-handed Bulldogs who are playing without two of their starters – Paula Harry and Ashley Claud -- because of injury. Still, the Bulldogs under the leadership of Coach Bo Pagliasotti showed quite a bit of resolve in the character tester against one of the top teams in the Lone Star Conference’s North Division.

SWOSU, now 5-21 overall and 1-6 in the LSC North, will play their next two games on the road before closing the season at home on Thursday, Nov. 3 against Midwestern State and Saturday, Nov. 5 against Texas Woman’s. SOSU assured itself of its first winning season in the program’s eight-year history is now 18-12 overall and 6-2 in the league.

Krista Butler and Ashley Pettit were SWOSU’s leaders in kills each totaling 16 while teammate Tennessee Brown was close behind with 14.

SWOSU setter Tiffany Shedrock kept the Bulldogs offensive attack humming along smoothly with a season-best 60 assists in the five-game, marathon match. She also added 11 kills for good measure.

SWOSU ended the match hitting at .186 with 75 kills and 37 errors in 204 attempts. SOSU was a fraction better with 65 kills and 26 errors in 200 attempts for a percentage of .195.
