Volleyball Team Stopped by MSU
October 27, 2006
Wichita Falls, TX – Southwestern Oklahoma State University beat Midwestern State University in the first game of a volleyball match Thursday in Wichita Falls, Texas but did not come away with a win, falling 3-1. MSU won by scores of 27-30, 30-21, 30-21, 30-22.
Midwestern’s win helped avenge an earlier season loss to the Bulldogs. Both teams won on their own home court. SWOSU’s record now stands at 10-22 overall and 2-9 in the Lone Star Conference North Division. The Bulldogs close the 2006 season at Texas Women’s on Saturday.
SWOSU scored the first five points of the match and in game one and ended up carrying that cushion all the way to the finish, winning 30-27. Cold stretches in games two, three and four proved SWOSU’s undoing as the Bulldogs fell by margins of eight, nine and eight.
Kasandra Gurtner, Paula Harry and Tennessee Brown each had 10 kills to tie for the team lead. The Bulldogs managed 48 kills on 171 attempts, against 40 errors for a percentage of .047.
Defensively, SWOSU had three players pick up 10 or more digs led by Madalyn Cummins with 15. Tiffany Shedrock and Paula Harry each added 10 digs for the Bulldogs.
