Gurtner Named to Tourney Team
September 3, 2007
Honors continue for Southwestern Oklahoma State University volleyball star Kasandra Gurtner as she was named to the St. Edward’s University Hilltopper Classic All-Tournament team. Gurtner was one of six players to be named to the special squad chosen by a vote of selected media representatives.
Gurtner, a senior from Cimarron, Kans., was previously awarded an all-tournament honor at the Bulldog’s season-opening tournament last month at Arkansas Tech.
The senior middle blocker was recognized as SWOSU’s top player at St. Edward’s in which the Bulldogs played matches against Arkansas Monticello, Northwest Missouri Nova Southeastern and the host school.
In the four matches, Gurtner played all 14 games and led the team with 61 kills, an average of 4.36 per game. She also had an attack percentage of .258 and averaged 1.14 blocks per game, both team bests.
SWOSU defeated St. Edward’s 3-0, winning 30-28, 30-28 and 30-25. The Bulldogs were beaten by the other three teams, Nova Southeastern, Arkansas Monticello and Northwestern Missouri State.
SWOSU’s record is now 4-5 on the young season.
