Volleyball Loses to Cameron

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University put up a spirited effort but could not overcome the hard-hitting Aggies of Cameron University and dropped  a 30-27, 30-15 and 30-26 volleyball match Thursday on campus.

SWOSU fell to 7-9 overall and 0-1 in the Lone Star Conference while Cameron improved to 7-8 and 2-1 in league play. SWOSU will play its next game at home Saturday against Midwestern State University. The match is set to begin at 12 noon in the University Wellness Center.

SWOSU had its best chances in games one and three but the Aggies came up with the big points when it mattered most. Staci West had back-to-back kills and brought the Bulldogs to within two at 29-27 in the first game.

Cameron’s Fernanda Queiroz, a native of Brazil, ended game one with an emphatic kill to make the final score 30-27. Queiroz ended the game with a game-high 17 kills in 38 attempts.

SWOSU had the third game tied at 19-19 before Cameron nudged ahead with four straight points. The margin was too much as the Bulldogs got no closer than two points the remainder of the way.

SWOSU hit .097 as a team collecting 34 kills against 24 errors in 111 attempts. Cameron delivered at a .287 rate with 47 kills, 16 errors in 108 attempts.

SWOSU’s Kacia Sandburg and Kasandra Gurtner each had seven kills to lead the Bulldogs.
