Volleyball Wins Three of Four

GOODWELL, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University righted itself in an impressive way winning three of four matches during a four-game weekend tournament at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The wins come after an 0-4 start and improved the Bulldogs to 3-5 on the year.SWOSU will play again on Tuesday when it travels to Bacone College where they will play Texas College and Bacone. SWOSU will play its first home game of the year on Thursday, Sept. 25 against Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
SWOSU’s victories came over Sterling College, Colorado College and Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The lone loss came to New Mexico Highlands.
The Bulldogs beat Sterling College 25-7, 25-15, 25-16 to collect their first win of the season. The Bulldog dominated Sterling, an NAIA school from Kansas, by peppering the Warriors with a .368 hitting percentage. Sterling had more errors (19) than kills (17) and finished with a negative .030 hitting percentage. Kacia Sandburg had 11 kills to lead the Bulldogs offensive attack.
The second game SWOSU was not as fortunate, losing to New Mexico Highlands, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20. The Bulldogs managed a hitting percentage of just .071 while the Cowgirls whistled along at a .302 clip. Emily Walter had seven of SWOSU’s 25 kills to lead the Bulldogs on the offensive end.
In game three, SWOSU rallied from a 1-0 hole and won three straight defeating Colorado Christian 21-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 26-24. Both teams were tied at 24-all in the fourth and final game before the Bulldogs put together back-to-back kills by Jennifer Naramore and Walter to secure the victory.
In the finale, SWOSU continued their dominance over OPSU, beating the Aggies for the eighth time in as many meetings. This time the scores were much closer but the results the same with the Bulldogs winning 28-26, 25-23, 25-23. SWOSU was again deadlocked with its opponent late tied at 23-23 in the third and final game. Breawn Waynes had a kill and Sandburg scored the final point with an emphatic kill to end it.
