Volleyball Loses at ATU

September 10, 2008

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s three-match winning streak came to an abrupt halt Wednesday as the Bulldogs lost to a red-hot Arkansas Tech University volleyball team by scores of 25-21, 25-9 and 25-11. The loss dropped SWOSU to 5-6 on the year while the Golden Suns won for the 11th time in 12 matches.

SWOSU stayed close for much of the first game. Jennifer Naramore delivered a kill to bring the Bulldogs within two points late at 23-21. ATU regrouped and won the next two points to clinch the game at 25-21.

The next two games were lopsided affairs as the Bulldogs could not get anything going against the Golden Suns stubborn defense.

Emily Walter had eight kills and Kacia Sandburg added seven to lead the Bulldogs offensively. SWOSU carried a respectable .156 attack percentage at the net but could not match ATU which hit a whopping .456 as a team.

SWOSU will next play Tuesday on the road against Southern Nazarene University, an NAIA foe, in Bethany. The Bulldogs will then open up Lone Star Conference play next weekend with road games at Cameron and then Midwestern State.

SWOSU’s first home game is Thursday, Sept. 25 against Southeastern Oklahoma.
