Volleyball Beaten by ECU, 3-2

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University had a number of chances but could not put away a feisty East Central University volleyball team and lost 3-2 Saturday in Weatherford. ECU won by scores of 25-22, 24-26, 25-17, 18-25, 16-14.The loss dropped SWOSU at 6-10 overall and 1-3 in the Lone Star Conference. ECU improved to 5-10 and 1-3 overall. The Bulldogs will next play Friday, Oct. 3 against Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Ark.
SWOSU fought its way back from a 2-1 deficit and extended the match into a fifth game with a spirited effort in game four. The Bulldogs hit .233, the highest of any of the games, and coasted to a 25-18 win.
SWOSU appeared to be in good shape in the fifth and deciding game and actually had a match point leading 14-13 after Jennifer Naramore’s kill. However, ECU regrouped and scored the next three points winning the match on a kill by Jaqueline Sparks.
Kacia Sandburg and Breawn Waynes provided the major part of SWOSU’s offensive attack. Sandburg finished with a season high 18 kills against four errors on 46 attacks. Waynes had 14 kills, six errors and 28 attacks. The two combined for 32 of the team’s 50 kills.
Overall, SWOSU hit .121 as a team as did ECU. The Tigers hit .269 as a team in game five while SWOSU hit at a .160 clip.
