Spike Night set for Oct. 20
October 14, 2008
Dozens of prizes, T-shirts, and several other giveaway items highlight a lengthy-list of stuff awaiting what university officials hope is a record crowd for Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Oct. 20th volleyball match against St. Gregory’s.
The special match is being promoted as "Spike Night 2008", with a number of different activities planned prior, during and after the game. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the game set to begin at 7 p.m.
SWOSU is looking to establish an unofficial Lone Star Conference attendance mark for the 2008 season. Currently, the mark is 675 at a game hosted earlier this year by national power West Texas A&M University. Last season, SWOSU had a school-record 654 people in attendance at its special game.
"We have been very lucky to have such great support from the students, faculty and staff over the last four years," SWOSU volleyball coach Bo Pagliasotti said. "Because of the support the SWOSU Athletic Association, we are able to have an event like this that not only showcases our great sport but honors our great fans."
"We are shooting for at least 1,000 fans to get onto the nationally recognized list at the American Volleyball Coaches Association. What this does for our program is show the nation that Southwestern Oklahoma State University is a great place to come play in front of a bunch of great fans."
The SWOSU Athletic Association is sponsoring much of the evening’s entertainment which will include spirit contest and a number of other events.
During the match, a serving contest is also slated between games two and three where fans have a chance to win a number of prizes.
Admission to all SWOSU volleyball matches is free. Tickets will be necessary to be eligible for door prizes and will be available to all who enter.
