Volleyball Loses to WTAM

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University put forward a gritty effort but were unable to keep pace with the high-velocity attack of visiting West Texas A&M University losing  3-0 in a vollyeball match Saturday in Weatherford.

WTAMU, the nation’s fourth-ranked NCAA Division II team, won by scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-18. The Buffs improved to 22-3 with the win and kept its record unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play at 6-0. SWOSU fell to 10-14 overall and 2-6 in league play.

SWOSU played much better in games two and three after a lopsided loss in game one when they were outhit by a .565 to .071 margin. SWOSU got within one point in the second game at 16-15 before WT scored eight out of the next 10 points to take a 25-17 win.

In game three, SWOSU got to within four at 22-18 on back-to-back kills by Tara Gibby but again the Buffs closed strong winning the final three points to close it out.

Kacia Sandburg had seven kills to lead SWOSU while Breawn Waynes added six. The Bulldogs had 22 kills, against 20 errors on an even 100 attacks. SWOSU hit .020 for the game. WTAMU sizzled with 46 kills against only 13 errors on 96 attacks for a .344 attack percentage.

The Bulldogs will next play Monday against St. Gregory’s University on a special night in which hundreds of T-shirts and dozens of prizes will be given to those in attendance. Gametime is set for 7 p.m.
