Volleyball Loses to ACU

ABILENE, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University, winners of three of its last four volleyball matches, had its momentum slowed slightly as the Bulldogs were beaten 3-0 to Abilene Christian Thursday night in Abilene, Texas. ACU won by scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-8.
The Bulldogs watched as their record falls to 11-15 overall and 2-7 in Lone Star Conference play. SWOSU will play next on the road Saturday against Angelo State before returning home with a match against Mid-America Christian College on Tuesday.
ACU, which improved to 17-8 and 4-4 overall, won a tough first game over the Bulldogs despite being out hit .206 to .119. SWOSU led as late as 21-20 on a kill by Staci West but were unable to close out the Wildcats and lost 25-22.
Little went right for the Bulldogs in the final two sets as the ACU defense limited SWOSU to negative hitting percentages winning by a score of 25-17 and 25-8.
The Bulldogs' Breawn Waynes played well for SWOSU in the loss. The freshman outside hitter had nine kills and hit .316. However, her teammates couldn't follow suit, finishing with the same amount of kills (22) as errors (22).
Jordan Schilling added eight kills and Erin Curry had seven in the Wildcat win. Ijeoma Moronu posted 31 assists, 16 digs and had three assists blocks from the setter position.
