Volleyball Beats MACU

October 28, 2008

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University completed its season sweep of Mid America Christian University with a 3-1 volleyball victory Tuesday in Weatherford. The Bulldogs defeated the Evangels in a match earlier this month, won this time by scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-21.

The win improved SWOSU to 12-16 on the year and helped them inch closer to its goal of matching and even perhaps passing last year’s season record win total of 14 games. SWOSU has four games remaining, three of which are at home. SWOSU’s next game is a home matchup with Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, Oct. 30 with a special start time at 6 p.m.

Against Mid America, SWOSU shook off a slow start in which the Evangels tied the match at 1-1 by winning the second game. From that point on it was all SWOSU as the Bulldogs began to heat up offensively behind Emily Walter, Breawn Waynes and Tara Gibby. The trio combined for 34 of the team’s 50 kills and committed just 11 errors between them.

As a team, SWOSU hit .120 with 50 kills, against 32 errors in 150 attacks. Mid America hit just .090 with 35 kills, 22 errors in 140 attacks.
