SWOSU Beats Okla. City

September 8, 2009

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University's volleyball team got a welcome pick-me-up from a rowdy home crowd easily dispatching NAIA rival Oklahoma City University 3-1 Tuesday in Weatherford. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-15.

The match was SWOSU's first at home this season and the Bulldogs did not disappoint. They passed the ball crisply and moved with precision dominating the visitors from the outset. The win improved the Bulldogs to 2-8 on the year and gives them needed momentum heading into a four-game tournament this weekend at Tarleton State. OCU fell to 4-6 with the loss.

SWOSU spread its offensive attack around much better against OCU than it had in earlier matches. Three different players each had 10 or more kills for the Bulldogs. SWOSU was led by Jennifer Naramore with 13 kills while Stephanie Parker and Emily Walter each added 10. As a team, the Bulldogs hit .116 with 47 kills against 30 errors in 147 attempts.

OCU was never sharp hitting .000 or below in three of the four games. Only the second, in which they won 23-25 did they hit in positive territory. Alex Benbroook and Taylor Rowten combined for 21 of OCU's 38 kills.

Defensively, SWOSU was solid with Kayla Bader leader the way with 18 digs. Walter and Tara Gibby were next with nine apiece.
