General Information

The course offerings in the Department of Biological Sciences span the sub-disciplines within the life sciences. This diversity prepares students for professional schools as well as a variety of options for graduate study and careers in professional study.

SWOSU is an affiliate member of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, a Mississippi State Institute of Higher Learning. Course work in marine biology completed at this facility may be applied toward degree requirements in the Biology major. Classes are offered during two six-week summer sessions at the marine laboratory at Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Opportunities for teaching and research are offered to selected students. Positions as teaching assistants are available in course laboratory sections. Students may also receive independent study course credit for participation in ongoing faculty research projects.
