Faculty Senate Meeting

                                                            2:00 p.m., July 26, 2002, Stafford 104

 

I.          CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISH QUORUM: The July 26, 2002 meeting of the Faculty Senate             was called to order at 2:04 PM in Stafford 104 with FS President John Hayden presiding.  The following             members were present:  Gerard East (for Michael Dougherty), Virgil Vandusen (for Shelly Prince),             George Alsbach, Nancy Buddy-Penner, Stephen Burgess, Cynthia Foust, Mark Gales, Terry Goforth,             John Hayden, Todd Helton, David Hertzel, Jason Johnson, Kelley Logan, Steven O'Neal, Gus Ortega,             Shelly Prince, Ken Rose, James South, Bill Swartwood, Karen Travis, and Ronna Vanderslice.

 

II.            CERTIFICATION OF SUBSTITUTES: Gerard East for Michael Dougherty and Virgil Vandusen for        Shelly Prince.

 

III.            PRESENTATION OF VISITORS: None.

 

IV.            APPROVAL OF MINUTES (FS Hand-out 2002-07-01): A motion was made and seconded to approve             the June 2002 minutes. The following correction was made and seconded: that Karen Travis be added as             "present." The minutes, as corrected, were approved.

 

V.            ANNOUNCEMENTS:

            A.             FS President Hayden: From Admin. Council, Exec. Council, COD, Provost Becker: The budget is                       on reserve in the library; no smoking within 25 feet of doorways where there will be cannisters;                            E-Mails are official records; latest resignations (Bob Dorlac, Li Liu, Kelli Stevens, Matt Bush);                         looking for someone to attend the AAUP Shared Governance Conference; FS Bank Account

                        will be getting its own Tax Identification Number; the Faculty Senate will have to fill University                                 Committee vacancies; it is too late to purchase Clock Tower Bricks; and new deans have been                                 appointed.

            B.            FS Secretary/Treasurer Hertzel: 

                                    1.  Roll Sheet

                                    2.  Treasurer’s Report: BancFirst Checking Account: $1,396.93. University Account:                                               $510.19.

            C.            FS President Elect Foust: The new faculty reception will be Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at                                                9:30AM in the Student Ballroom

            D.            FS Past President Crall : No report. 

            E.            Student Government Representative Mollie Priest: No report.

 

VI.            REPORTS FROM STANDING AND AD HOC COMMITTEES:

A.                Audit Committee Report (FS Hand-out 2002-07-02).

 

The following motion was made and seconded:

 

FS Motion 2002-07-01 that the Faculty Senate approve the Audit Committee Report.

                       

            The motion carried.

 

VII.           UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

A.            Revised Tenure Review Procedures from COD (FS Hand-out 2002-06-06). The Faculty Senate             will look at this in August.

B.                 Tabled FS Motion 2002-06-01 to approve Club Sports Policy (FS Hand-out 2002-06-07).

 

The following motion was moved from the table:

 

FS Motion 2002 -06-01 that the Faculty Senate approve the Club Sports Policy.

 

            The motion was referred to the Faculty Senate Student Affairs Committee for a             recommendation.

 

C.            5 Names from Each School for Deans to present to Chairs for Provost's UPTRC consideration. A             reminder that these are needed by the third Friday in September. Ric Baugher will be the contact             person for Arts & Sciences

D.        Faculty Anniversary Recognition Awards. The ad hoc committee chaired by Jeff Gentry is             preparing this. The cost will be around $170.00.

 

VIII.    NEW BUSINESS:

                A.            Other: None.

 

IX.            ADJOURNMENT: With no further business before it, the Faculty Senate adjourned at 2:25PM.
