Continuing Education--Communtiy Service

Continuing Education—Community Service Activities:   Continuing Education (CE)—Community Service Activities are offered through OSP.  CE at SWOSU provides life-long learning opportunities for the campus and surrounding communities to assist citizens in the achievement of personal, family, civic, or professional goals through the offering of diversified short-term noncredit activities.  It also extends to faculty and others with expertise the opportunity to share their talents and abilities with the community and to reap some financial regards for their expertise and effort.

The Office of Sponsored Programs and Continuing Education invites you to participate in the university’s efforts to offer non-credit continuing education (CE) activities.  Instructors may be faculty, staff, or administrators and may receive compensation for serving as a CE instructor.  Faculty can offer an activity that is not in their discipline.  By offering non-credit CE at SWOSU, we are providing residents in the region the opportunity to have an avenue for personal enrichment through entertaining and challenging programs.  CE provides an invaluable outlet for individuals to continue to learn, expand their horizons, and enhance their development.

The length of a CE activity is at the instructor’s discretion.  For instance, the activity can be offered as a series of sessions or a one evening workshop.  Activity subjects could include but not limited to:  communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership & management skills, baking & cooking, food & nutrition, home & garden, floral design, interior design, languages, literature, money & finance, recreation, art, oil or acrylic painting, watercolor, stain glass instruction, music, sports, card games, multi-cultural issues, genealogy, rare books, computer training, internet & e-mail, web page design, seniors’ computer series, quilt-making, creative crochet, sewing, dance, creative writing, poetry, calligraphy, aerobics & exercise, yoga, health care issues, hunter education, entrepreneurship program, real estate, photography, scrapbooks, photo albums, antiques, research, grant writing, safety, parents & family programs, historical issues, training programs, business & professional educational opportunities, and many other subjects.

If interested in offering a non-credit continuing education activity, contact Berva Pool (ext. 7012) or Anita Blankenship (ext. 7010), or come by the Office of Sponsored Programs (STF-209) for details.
