Health Information Management
The Health Information Management (HIM) Program at SWOSU is divided into a pre-professional sequence and a professional sequence. Students declaring a HIM major are automatically in the pre-professional sequence until they complete the application and acceptance process during the spring semester of their junior year. The pre-professional program provides the student the opportunity to complete two years of courses including GE and ancillary requirements prior to beginning the professional sequence. After meeting admission criteria which includes completion of most of the pre-professional courses, attaining and maintaining a 2.25 GPA, and successfully completing Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology, the student will officially begin the professional program. This phase of the HIM program includes specific HIM related courses which will prepare the student for the healthcare workforce.
