Mark LumpkinSouthwestern Oklahoma State University has announced that Mark Lumpkin will become the new head coach of for both the men and women's golf teams.

Lumpkin's hiring was announced by new athletic director Todd Thurman. Lumpkin will replace former coach Michael Bond, who resigned his position earlier this summer after four seasons with the Bulldogs.

“I am grateful and incredibly excited for the opportunity to lead Southwestern's golf program,” Lumpkin said, a long-time coach who spent the last few years within the banking industry. “I love teaching young people, and look forward very much to the challenge of developing a quality program here at SWOSU. My main focus is attracting quality student-athletes to this campus whose goal is to graduate. I want them to be successful in the future and a positive representative of this great university.”

Lumpkin is a 1972 graduate of SWOSU where he played baseball for Coach Cecil Devine. He served as an instructor and coach at high schools in Colorado Springs, Hinton and Weatherford before moving fulltime into the banking industry in 1982.

He has recently started and will continue to maintain a residential lending operation in Western Oklahoma.

“I don't think we could have found a better candidate to direct our golf program,” Thurman said. “He has a real passion for SWOSU and the Weatherford community. He will be an outstanding addition to our university and the athletic department.”
