Library Instruction for Schools

Southwestern Oklahoma State University welcomes the use of the Al Harris Library by students and teachers in the area schools. The following guidelines have been established to help facilitate usage during these visits.

  • Formal class visits should be scheduled through the Reference Department, (580)774-3031. Please make arrangements at least one week in advance.
  • One visit per school is allowed per semester.
  • Only high school juniors and/or seniors classes will be scheduled to use the facilities.
  • Class size will be limited to no more than 20 students.
  • If classes are larger than 20 the visit will need to be split between two days.
  • The Library Instruction Room will be reserved for class use. There are 16 computers in the room. Printing and downloading are available. The computers on the first floor are not to be used by visiting students.
  • The visiting teacher will be given instruction on the use of equipment in the Library Instruction Room. A 20 to 30 minute presentation on usage of library databases will be given by library personnel if requested.
  • Elementary and secondary school students cannot check out materials.
  • Students may make use of the facilities on an individual basis whenever the library is open. Minors age 18 or younger who are not SWOSU students must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or teacher when using computers in the Al Harris Library. See the Library Computing Policy for full details.
