AccessMedicine
Due to a significant subscription price increase, AccessMedicine will not be available at SWOSU after June 30th, 2014.
AccessMedicine is an online collection of key medical reference texts that provide authoritative and current medical data. Medical news, updates, patient education information, a diagnostic tool, and an integrated drug database with information about dosages, trade names, and pricing are also part of this resource. Searching is available across the entire suite of basic sciences and clinical texts. An A-Z index and QuickAccess search also provide easy access to material. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews | More Cochrane databases ...
The CDSR is database of reviews which identify an intervention for a specific disease or other problem in health care, and determine whether this intervention works. To do this, authors locate, appraise and synthesize evidence from as many relevant scientific studies as possible. They summarize conclusions about effectiveness, and provide a unique collation of the known evidence on a given topic, so that others can easily review the primary studies for any intervention. The CDSR is one of six Cochrane Collection databases.
Drug Information Portal
This National Library of Medicine web site lets you search a wide range of US government resources for information on over 15,000 drugs. The Drug Information Portal searches all of these databases: MedlinePlus, AIDSinfo, Medline/PubMed, LactMed, HSDB, Dietary Supplements Labels Database, TOXLINE, DailyMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, PubChem, NIAID Anti-HIV/OI Database, ChemIDplus, Drugs@FDA, DEA, and USA.gov.

This drug information resource provides monographs detailing actions, indications, administration and dosage, interactions, adverse reactions, warnings and more. Comprehensive tables compare products of similar formulation, including doseform and strength, distributor name, how supplied, product identification codes and more.
FDA Orange Book (Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations)
The Orange Book identifies drug products approved on the basis of safety and effectiveness by the FDA. (Drugs approved only on the basis of safety are not included.) It also contains therapeutic equivalence evaluations for multisource prescription drug products. The Orange Book is searchable by active ingredient, proprietary name, applicant holder, and application number.

Health and Society in Video is a collection of documentaries related to health and society. Health issues such as pediatric AIDS, cancer, health insurance, access to health care, addiction, malnutrition, and Alzheimer's disease are presented through first-hand accounts and case studies from health care practitioners as well as patients and their families. This resource is part of the VAST: Academic Video Online collection.

IBIDS (International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements)
IBIDS is now the PubMed Dietary Supplements Subset. This database contains citations to international scientific journals on the topic of dietary supplements, including vitamins, minerals, herbal and botanical supplements.
IDIS Drug Database (Iowa Drug Information Service)
IDIS is an index to information on drugs and human drug therapy found in the primary literature of approximately 200 leading medical and pharmaceutical journals. If you're new to IDIS, learn the basics with these tutorials.

  • IDIS uses Adobe Acrobat to provide full copies of indexed articles from 1988 to the present. All indexed articles from 1981 to 1997 are available on microfiche in the IDIS microfiche cabinet at the Al Harris Library.

International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA)
IPA provides worldwide coverage of pharmaceutical science and health related literature. Coverage includes drug therapy, toxicity, and pharmacy practice, as well as legislation, regulation, technology, utilization, biopharmaceutics, education, economics, and ethics as related to pharmaceutical science and practice. IPA indexes approximately 850 journals.

MEDLINE with Full Text (EBSCOhost)
MEDLINE indexes journals in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, and veterinary medicine. It also covers research on the health care system and the preclinical sciences. MEDLINE contains citations and abstracts from approximately 5,200 current biomedical journals published in the US and 70 foreign countries.

Medline Plus has patient-oriented information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 650 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and a medical dictionary, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials. MedlinePlus is updated daily. There is no advertising on this site, nor does MedlinePlus endorse any company or product.

Merck Manual Online
The Merck Manual is the most widely used medical text in the world. Written by over 300 experts, it covers all but the most obscure disorders. In addition to describing symptoms, common clinical procedures, laboratory tests, and virtually all the disorders that a general internist might encounter, the Manual deals with problems of pregnancy and delivery; common and serious disorders of neonates, infants, and children; genetics; drug dependency; psychiatric disorders; and many disorders covered by other specialties.  Current therapy is presented for each disorder and supplemented with a separate section on clinical pharmacology.

This resource provides rapid access to information on drugs, diseases, acute care, toxicology, alternative medicines, and patient education.

National Guideline Clearinghouse
A comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents, created under the guidance of the US DHHS. NGC offers Syntheses of selected guidelines that cover similar topic areas, and expert commentary on issues of interest and importance to the clinical guideline community.

This web-based search service from the UK's National Health Service provides easy access to high quality clinical and non-clinical information about health and social care.

Formerly known as IBIDS, this PubMed database subset contains citations to international scientific journals on the topic of dietary supplements, including vitamins, minerals, herbal and botanical supplements.
RxList: the Internet Drug Index
A searchable database of clinically-oriented drug information.  Includes RxList ID, which allows you to identify unknown tablets and capsules by searching for their ID imprint codes and a list of the top 200 prescription drugs by brand name and generic name.
Science Citation Index Expanded
SCI is a multidisciplinary index to the journal literature of the sciences. It fully indexes over 6,650 major journals across 150 scientific disciplines and includes all cited references captured from indexed articles.

The United States Pharmacopeia National Formulary (USP-NF) is an online reference of public pharmacopeial standards. It contains standards for medicines, dosage forms, drug substances, excipients, medical devices, and dietary supplements.
