Citation GuidesStep 1. Download and install SciFinder Scholar for Macintosh
- Click the link below to download the SciFinder Scholar for Macintosh installer:
DOWNLOAD sfs2007a.dmg - Save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click sfs2007a.dmg to open the installer. Then drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar icon to your Applications folder.
Step 2. Copy site.prf
- Click the link below to download mac-site-prf.zip:
DOWNLOAD mac-site-prf.zip - Save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click mac-site-prf.zip to open it. The file site.prf is inside.
- Open the Applications folder. Select the SciFinder Scholar icon.
- Click the Actions button (this is the button with a gear below the Applications window title bar) and choose Show Package Contents.

- Navigate to Contents > MacOS. Copy site.prf into the MacOS folder.
- You're ready to run SciFinder Scholar!
- SWOSU is limited to one SciFinder Scholar user at a time. The message "Login failed: Too many concurrent sessions for this login id" means another SciFinder user is logged on. Wait a few minutes and try logging in again.
- You can safely delete mac-site-prf.zip and sfs2007a.dmg from your desktop. These files aren't needed after SciFinder is installed.
Step 3. Learn about searching with SciFinder Scholar
- SciFinder Scholar will retrieve articles in full text from the American Chemical Society Archives and EBSCO full-text databases. SciFinder Scholar also links to many publishers' pay-per-use sites. Use interlibrary loan for pay-per-use articles. In most cases the library can to get the article for you at no charge.
