Citation GuidesStep 1. Download and install SciFinder Scholar for Windows
- Watch the SciFinder Scholar installation video.
- Next, click the link below to download the SciFinder Scholar for Windows installer:
DOWNLOAD sfs2007.exe - Save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click the sfs2007.exe shortcut to start the installation.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
- Accept the default installation path (C:\SFSCHLR).
- The installer will ask, "Do you have a disk labeled Custom Site Files?". Click No and complete the installation.
- Installing the SciFinder Scholar toolbar is optional. It lets you start SciFinder quickly from Internet Explorer. The toolbar doesn't work with Firefox.
Step 2. Put site.prf into C:\SFSCHLR
- Click the link below to download site-prf.zip:
DOWNLOAD site-prf.zip - Save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click site-prf.zip to open it.
- Copy site.prf to C:\SFSCHLR.
(The site.prf file is encrypted, so it can't be opened or edited.) - Click Start > Programs > SciFinder Scholar 2007 > SciFinder Scholar to run the program.
- SWOSU is limited to one SciFinder Scholar user at a time. The message "Login failed: Too many concurrent sessions for this login id" means another SciFinder user is logged on. Wait a few minutes and try logging in again.
- You can safely delete site-prf.zip and sfs2007.exe from your desktop. These files aren't needed after SciFinder is installed.
Step 3. Learn about searching with SciFinder Scholar
- SciFinder Scholar will retrieve articles in full text from the American Chemical Society Archives and EBSCO full-text databases. SciFinder Scholar also links to many publishers' pay-per-use sites. Use interlibrary loan for pay-per-use articles. In most cases the library can to get the article for you at no charge.
