Music

Computer Lab

Music Computer LabThe lab opened during spring semester 2000. It is housed in the Music Building and occupies the front half of the music library. The lab was funded through the Student Technology Fee.

There are 12 Dell networked workstations (new in fall of 2004), running Windows XP Pro. In addition to Microsoft Office and internet browsing software, each station has music sequencing, notation, accompaniment, and aural skills CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) software. Music Theory faculty have integrated the software into their course requirements, and many other music classes have assignments in the lab.

In spring of 2001, we added an additional workstation in a locked practice room. This workstation is a Pentium III 933 Mhz machine with 256 megs of RAM and a 40 gig hard drive. It is equipped with a SoundBlaster Live! Platinum 5.1 sound card and a 12X CD writer. It has digital audio editing software (Sound Forge 6.0) and accompaniment software (SmartMusic from Coda), as well as multi-track digital recording capabilities. A high quality mixer and microphones (including several large-diaphragm condenser mics) are available for recording. In summer of 2004, we added a Tascam 788 8-track digital workstation and Roland digital monitors to this room.
