Peace Activist to Speak at SWOSU on Feb. 28
Nathaniel Batchelder, director of Oklahoma City's Peace House, will speak at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday, February 28, on the Weatherford campus.
Batchelder will talk about the Iraq War and related topics of concern including trade globalization and environmental sustainability. Batchelder's address, "Hopes for Peace," will be delivered in Stafford Center 104 at 5 p.m. The public is invited and admission is free.
Sponsoring his visit is the Coalition for the Promotion of Peace Club at SWOSU.
Batchelder is a Vietnam veteran and has been director of the Peace House since 1990. In that capacity, he has been on missions and visited peace organizations in Washington, DC, Germany, Mexico, Nicaragua, Cuba, and several states in the United States. He has been invited to deliver guest sermons at United Methodist, Disciples of Christ, Congregational, and Unitarian churches.
"Half the people in the world live without reasonable access to the basics of survival: safe water, sanitation, elementary education, basic health care,” Batchelder said. “What the United States can or should contribute to alleviating that suffering is a reflection of the political will of the American people."
