SWOSU Faculty Recital Planned Sunday
Soprano Joyce Adams Curtis will perform a voice recital accompanied by Dr. James Breckenridge on the piano and harpsichord this Sunday, March 6, at 5 p.m. in Room 101 of the Music Building on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Weatherford.
The public is cordially invited, and the concert is free.
Curtis is in her fourth year as a faculty member at SWOSU. She directs the Women’s Chorus, which was one of the featured groups at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association convention in 2003. She has frequently performed as soloist with Canterbury Choral Society in Oklahoma City and will perform two principal roles in the Society’s upcoming opera production of selections from Bizet’s Carmen and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.
Breckenridge has been a member of the SWOSU piano faculty since 1968 and is coordinator of the keyboard division. His teaching duties include advanced performance and pedagogy. He has appeared in solo and chamber performances nationwide as well as abroad. He is a permanent member of the resident faculty at three major summer music institutes in the United States.
Also at Sunday’s concert, Paula Price of the SWOSU music faculty will perform on the Bach aria Höchster, was ich habe. Graduate assistant Joy Unruh will play clarinet on Schubert’s Dir Hirt auf dem Felsen. Curtis’ daughter, Laurin Curtis, will join her mother in performing Sull’ aria, a duet from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.
Included on the program are works by Handel, Mozart, Debussy, Faure, Poulenc and Rorem.
