U.S. Air Force Jazz Ensemble to Perform at SWOSU
The Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble from the United States Air Force is a group of 18 professional enlisted musicians whose repertoire ranges from traditional big band jazz, to bebop and swing, to modern jazz.

The Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble from the United States Air Force will perform at Southwestern Oklahoma State University this Monday, April 18, on the Weatherford campus.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

The ensemble is a group of 18 professional enlisted musicians whose repertoire ranges from traditional big band jazz, to bebop and swing, to modern jazz. The band is directed by Master Sergeant Mark A. Hansen.

Dr. James South of the SWOSU Music Department said the ensemble will be a delight to hear, and the SWOSU Music Department is pleased to sponsor the ensemble’s visit to western Oklahoma.

The Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble performs music of contemporary composers as well as the classic sounds of Count Basie or Glenn Miller.

The ensemble is often requested for featured performances at jazz clinics and festivals throughout the country. The ensemble has also performed at Major League Baseball games and National Basketball Association contests. According to Hansen, whether performing for a head of state, or for troops at home and abroad, the Shades of Blue reflects the heritage and pride of the United States and the U.S. Air Force.
