Peruvian Presidential Candidate Speaking at SWOSU
A presidential candidate in Peru will be among the participants in an open forum this Sunday, September 25, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Humberto Lay Sun will be among a delegation from Peru and Argentina who will speak at 7 p.m. in Room 313 of the Science Building on the SWOSU campus. The forum will focus on the future of Peruvian and Latin American politics.
Sponsoring the forum is the SWOSU Hispanic Association, Political Science Association and the International Students Association. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Admission is free.
Lay, an architect, is running for president of Peru in 2006 as the Partido de Restauracion Nacional Party’s candidate. The PRN is a national Christian party comprised of both Catholics and Protestants.
Other members of the delegation who will be at SWOSU this Sunday include: Sir Walter Alejos Calderon, Peruvian congressman; Sir Gustavo Sierra Ortiz, mayor of Surquillo, Peru; Sir Cesar Gonzalez Arribasplata, mayor of Lince, Peru; Jorge Marquez Chaha, trip coordinator; Renaldo Aragon Gutierrez, Peruvian media representative; Rev. Alberto Salazar, founder of “The World Needs Christ” ministry; Rev. Bernardo Steinbrecher, pastor in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Rev. Ricardo Cabezas Palomino, pastor in Comas, Peru.
Malcolm Patterson, faculty member in the Language Arts Department at SWOSU, arranged the group’s visit to SWOSU and western Oklahoma. The delegation is scheduled to tour places of interest in the Hydro and Weatherford area on Sunday afternoon and then attend a 4 p.m. reception at Fair Acres Farm in Hydro. The forum at SWOSU is scheduled from 7-8 p.m.
