Hatton Receives Top Honor
Dr. Vicki Hatton, chair of the Department of Kinesiology at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, recently received the highest award that the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance bestows on individuals.
The OAHPERD Honor Award was presented to Hatton at the recent state convention in Oklahoma City.
Hatton is an associate professor at SWOSU where she teaches, serves as an advisor, and serves as a member of several university committees.
Her lengthy and meritorious service to the OAHPERD includes many years on both the board and council. She recently concluded her terms as president-elect, president and past president.
During her year as past president, she planned, coordinated and facilitated the annual OAHPERD state convention. She has had active roles on the Governor’s Task Force for “Promotion of Children’s Health” and also with the “Oklahoma Fit Kid’s Coalition”. Hatton has also received the OAHPERD Presidential Citation. She is a volunteer for Special Olympics and a clinician for Special Olympics Volunteer Coaches Training. Her most recent publication is titled, “Are Our Schools Helping or Hindering Childhood Obesity?”
OAHPERD Vice President Dennis Cyr said Hatton has been a positive influence to many current and future professionals and has been a great role model for all who know her.
“Students and colleagues alike are indebted to Dr. Hatton for her time, talents, efforts and energy to the organization,” Cyr said.
