SWOSU's Industrial Technology Program Receives Accreditation
November 29, 2005
The Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford is pleased to announce the accreditation of its Bachelor of Science degree program in industrial technology by the National Association of Industrial Technology.
NAIT is the premiere professional organization for industrial technologists.
"This accreditation demonstrates the commitment to quality programs of instruction by our department and SWOSU,” said Dr. Gary Bell, chair of the Industrial and Engineering Technology Department. “We believe industry employers will continue to value and recognize our graduates as key players for a successful business."
Accreditation was granted at the recent annual conference of NAIT held in St. Louis, MO. Representatives of the IET Department appeared before the Board of Accreditation as the final step in a two-year process.
The accredited degree program joins the manufacturing engineering technology major program, which is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology. SWOSU is now among a very few elite universities offering programs accredited by both NAIT and ABET. The Bachelor of Science degree program is also the latest in SWOSU's long and growing list of nationally accredited academic programs, which now stands at 16. SWOSU has the most nationally accredited academic programs among the Oklahoma regional universities.
Bell said the industrial technology program is a degree for technical managers and business professionals involved in technology. Students may specialize in one of five areas including electronics, manufacturing, environmental technology, industrial supervision and general technology.
Graduates of the program have filled positions in industry as technicians, industrial supervisors, production managers and process engineers. With emphasis upon management and business combined with industrial processes and materials, graduates often move quickly to more responsible positions within an organization.
Located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, NAIT only accredits industrial technology programs. Industrial technology is a field of study devoted to managing, optimizing and maintaining technological systems.
