Rain Coming to SWOSU on January 31
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s upcoming Panorama event featuring Cirque Eloise on Tuesday, January 31, should be a crowd-pleaser.
“Several years ago we had a production by Peking Acrobats that simply amazed the crowd,” said Brian Adler, chair of the Panorama Committee. “This production should be similar in that performers specialize in contortion, trapeze, juggling, acrobatics and aerial rings. Plus, part of the production is done in water.”
Cirque Eloise’s Rain will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center on the SWOSU campus in Weatherford. Tickets are now on sale at the SWOSU Business Office in Room 109 of the Administration Building and the SWOSU Public Relations & Marketing Office in Room 205 of the Administration Building. Tickets are $10 for SWOSU students and $20 for non-SWOSU students. All tickets at the door will be $25.
Cirque Eloize is based in Montreal. Rain is the group’s latest show directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca. Cirque Eloize performed Rain this past summer on Broadway in New York City.
Taking place in a sort of surreal old-time vaudeville house, the cast of 11 performs a magical ballet of athletics and slapstick as told via juggling, tumbling, contortions and trapeze artistry, among other acrobatic movements. The production encompasses diverse elements of circus, theatre, dance and music.
The show opens with the author recalling as a boy, the first time he was allowed to play outside in the rain. The finale brings the evening full circle with the entire troupe rollicking and sliding across the stage in showers of water.
