No Child Left Behind Math Workshops Funded at SWOSU

The United States Department of Education as a part of the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act has funded an $112,916 grant for Southwestern Oklahoma State University that will provide three eight-day summer institutes for elementary mathematics teachers on the Weatherford campus.
KESAM 2006: K-8 Scholars Appreciating Mathematics--A Hands-On, Brains-On Journey of Excellence was provided to principle investigator Dr. John Woods through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. The project was awarded to provide intensive professional development to improve mathematics instruction in the elementary classroom.
Woods said plans are underway for three eight-day summer institutes. The first of the institutes will be June 5-15, the second session June 19-29 and the final session July 10-20.
Oklahoma elementary teachers wanting to develop lessons and materials to improve their students’ understanding and enjoyment of mathematics are encouraged to submit an application.
