Gilbert & Sullivan Showcase Planned at SWOSU

April 7, 2006

“A Showcase of Gilbert and Sullivan” will be featured by the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Community Chorus on Monday, April 17, on the Weatherford campus.

The 8:15 p.m. concert will be held in Room 101 of the Music Building on the SWOSU campus. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Jonathan Stewart directs the chorus.

“This is an exciting evening of music that will include selections from four different Gilbert and Sullivan operettas,” Stewart said.

Gilbert and Sullivan were a duo who produced comic operettas from 1871 – 1896. Their combination of talents, Gilbert writing the texts and Sullivan setting it to music, were an international hit.

The SWOSU Community Chorus performance will include choruses and solos from Princes Ida, The Mikado, The Gondoliers and Pirates of Penzance.

Stewart said the concert will be filled with beautiful music and humorous stories that are guaranteed to be enjoyed by all.

The Music Building is located immediately west of the Fine Arts Center on Davis Road on the SWOSU campus.
