Tulane University Honoring SWOSU for Hurricane Katrina Efforts
June 9, 2006
Tulane University is honoring universities—including Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford/Sayre—for its service to Tulane students during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
SWOSU was one of the universities that accepted Tulane students, who continued their education without disruption.
To acknowledge and commemorate the assistance, Tulane is creating a Katrina tapestry. University logos from the schools will be featured. Upon completion, the tapestry will hang in the newly constructed Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life.
Dr. Cynthia Cherrey, vice president for student affairs at Tulane, said the tapestry will serve as a life long tribute to the universities for their contributions to the recovery of the gulf coast region and especially in helping Tulane students.
