Kinder Named Associate Dean at SWOSU
Dr. Chad Kinder has been appointed associate dean of the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Kinder, who has been employed at SWOSU since 1997, will also maintain his duties as chairman of the SWOSU Parks and Recreation Management Department. He has been chairman of the department since 2003.
Kinder replaces Dr. Gary Gilliland, who is retiring at the end of the summer semester. Kinder will oversee the departments of Education, Kinesiology, Parks and Recreation Management, Psychology, and Social Work.
Kinder also served as park director/ranger at Crowder Lake University Park from 2003-06 and taught in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department.
A 1989 graduate of Clinton High School, Kinder received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a major in HPER from SWOSU in 1993. In 1995, he graduated from SWOSU with a Master of Education degree with a specialization in Education Administration. In 2003, he received his Doctor of Education degree with a specialization in Leisure Studies from Oklahoma State University.
Prior to his employment at SWOSU, Kinder taught in the Custer City and Clinton Public Schools for four years. His teaching assignments included secondary science, outdoor education and elementary physical education. Kinder’s primary research area is New Deal era parks and recreation. He has conducted extensive research on Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) and Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) parks in Oklahoma.
Kinder is currently serving as president-elect of the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
His wife, Gayla, teaches first grade in the Arapaho Public Schools. They have two children, Natalie (6) and Carson (3).
