Homecoming Competition Deadlines Approaching at SWOSU
The deadlines for entry in this year’s SWOSU homecoming king and queen scholarship competition as well as an SWOSU Alumni Association float startup money competition are coming up soon.
The king and queen entries will be accepted in the Dean of Students Office (Stafford 214) no later than Friday, September 29, at 5 p.m.
A mandatory meeting for all candidates will be held at 5:15 pm this Monday, October 2, at the SWOSU Student Government Center. Portraits will be taken immediately following the meeting.
Homecoming elections will be held in the Stafford Building lobby from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, and Wednesday, October 11. These elections will narrow the competition to the homecoming court of three king candidates and three queen candidates. Panel interviews will also be used in selecting this year’s homecoming king and queen, who will be crowned during the October 28 football game.
Additional information about the king/queen competition can be attained by contacting the Student Government Association at 580.774.0615 or email@example.com.
As for the homecoming float competition, SWOSU campus organizations have a chance to apply for up to $200 in startup money to construct a float for the homecoming parade. A float committee will select a maximum of six proposals to help those groups purchase additional supplies for the construction of a float. The startup money is made possible by the SWOSU Alumni Association.
The deadline to apply for the startup money is October 4.
First place prize money for this year’s homecoming float winner is $1,300. Second place winner will receive $800 and third place winner will win $500. The money is provided by the SWOSU SGA, SWOSU Alumni Association and area financial institutions.
More details are available in the PR & Marketing Office, Room 205 of the Administration Building or by calling 580.774.3063.
SWOSU’s homecoming is October 28, and theme this year is “Red, White and Bulldog.” The parade will begin at 3 p.m. in downtown Weatherford. Various other activities will be held throughout the day including the annual football game between SWOSU and UCO at 6 p.m.
