Pinkey Patel Wins Miss Southwestern Crown

Pinkey PatelPinkey Patel of Chandler is the new Miss Southwestern and will represent Southwestern Oklahoma State University at next summer’s Miss Oklahoma Pageant.

Patel won the title among 12 contestants at Saturday’s (November 4) pageant held at SWOSU in Weatherford. She won a $2,300 scholarship. Patel also won the talent competition and a $100 scholarship for her cultural dance routine.

Patel is a junior majoring in pre-pharmacy. Her platform issue is “Sexual Abstinence.”

Ranee Young of Sentinel finished as first runnerup. Young won a $1,300 scholarship. The junior also won a $50 scholarship for winning the Physical Fitness/Swimsuit Award and she also won a $100 scholarship for selling the most scholarship patrons.

Other top finishers were: Jennifer Owens, Meeker sophomore, second runnerup, $900 scholarship; Ashley Calhoun, Amber sophomore; third runnerup, $800 scholarship; and Heather Russell, Guthrie senior, fourth runnerup, $700 scholarship.

Alison Creach of Hammon won the Crowd Pleaser Award, which was a $25 gift certificate. Mercedez Bernard of Granite won the “Most Tickets Sold” Award and won a $50 scholarship and a $50 gift certificate. Bobbi Poff of Elk City won the Peer Leadership Award, which is voted on by the contestants. Poff won a $25 gift certificate.

All non-finalists each won $150 scholarships.
