Miss Southwestern Available for Area Programs
January 17, 2007
Miss Southwestern Scholarship Pageant officials and the current Miss Southwestern, Pinkey Patel, are available to provide programs for area clubs and organizations.
Midge Gerber, director of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University pageant in Weatherford, said board members are available to present brief educational programs on the pageant system.
Patel, who won her title in November, is available to provide entertainment at club and professional meetings. The Chandler junior is majoring in pre-pharmacy at SWOSU, and her platform is promoting sexual abstinence.
Patel will represent SWOSU at this summer’s Miss Oklahoma Pageant.
The SWOSU pageant is an affiliate of the Miss Oklahoma/Miss America Scholarship Pageants. This year’s pageant is set for October 27.
Contact Gerber at (580) 774-3043 to schedule a program.
Membership in the PLC will allow students to develop close associations with university administrators and meet scholars and dignitaries who visit campus.
Interested high school seniors should apply by March 1, 2007. Interviews will be conducted during the spring semester with selection being completed by early May. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: ACT of at least 24; top 40% of graduating class; or exceptional activities, athletics or community service.
First year participants will receive a $1,000 scholarship, room scholarship and enrollment in the PLC leadership course. During the second year, students will receive a $1,000 scholarship; an end-of-semester trip to a major city, tentatively New York City; and enrollment in the PLC course. During the third and fourth years of the program, students will serve as mentors for the first and second year PLC members. Students may be eligible for continuing scholarships.
Applications are available at the SWOSU Foundation Office, located in Room 201 of the Administration Building, or online at http://www.swosu.edu/admissions/plc/plc.asp. Additional information about the program is available by calling Beutler at (580) 774-7193.
