SWOSU-Sayre Hosting Financial Aid Workshops for Prospective College Students
The student financial aid office at Southwestern Oklahoma State University-Sayre is sponsoring a come and go workshop Saturday, February 17, for any and all students and adults that plan to go to college next fall.
The workshop is from 9 a.m. until 12 noon in Room 119 of the Alexander Building.
Ron Kistler said the purpose of the workshops on the Sayre campus is to fill out the FAFSA form, which is the free application for federal student aid. Any student in need of financial aid in the form of grants, work-study, or loans must fill out the FAFSA, and the earlier the better.
Kistler said some grants are given on a “first come, first serve” basis so it would be to one's advantage to complete the form by March 15. Students do not have to be enrolled at the SWOSU campuses to attend these workshops.
A second session will be held the evening of Monday, February 26 from 5:30 until 8 p.m. in the Capps Building. The sessions are come and go. Computers will be available for parent and student use in filling out the FAFSA on-line that evening.
"If anyone needs help filling out their FAFSA on line, please attend one of these seminars,” Kistler said. “Be sure to bring your pin # (which can be obtained by going to
www.pin.ed.gov). Remember, students and parents must each have separate pin numbers in order to use the on-line system, which is faster and more accurate.”
Other information that will be needed includes financial information, such as 1040, 1040a or 1040EZ tax return or W-2 forms for the year of 2006.
Refreshments will be served, and everyone is invited to attend. If anyone has questions concerning this service, please contact Kistler or Jen Hodge at 580.28-5533.
