Special Events Planned for SWOSU Jazz Festival
The 37th annual Southwestern Oklahoma State University Jazz Festival is coming up Friday, February 9, on the Weatherford campus.
This year’s festival will feature jazz trombone legend Bill Watrous and an outstanding group of jazz musicians including Rich Eames, piano; Jennifer Leitham, bass; and Randy Drake, drums.
Another event taking place this year in conjunction with the festival is a candlelight dinner/dancing event that will start at 6:15 p.m. prior to the 8 p.m. jazz concert. The dinner is being jointly sponsored by the Weatherford Arts Council and the SWOSU Music Department.
The dinner/dancing will be held in the elegantly redecorated SWOSU Memorial Student Center Ballroom. Following the dinner, guests will move to the Fine Arts Center to be seated in a special reserved section.
Tickets for the dinner/jazz concert are $22 each and can be purchased from any Weatherford Arts Council member or by calling Jeanine Berrong at 580.772-7238 or Linda Hays at 580.774.8485. Purchase deadline for those tickets is Tuesday, February 6.
Two jazz concerts are planned that day at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. The concerts will feature the SWOSU Jazz Ensemble “A”, directed by Dr. Keith M. Talley, and the guest musicians. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $3 for students with an ID. Tickets are on sale at the SWOSU Music Office, Room 100, in the Fine Arts Center.
The SWOSU Jazz Festival is presented by the SWOSU Department of Music with assistance from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. For additional information contact the SWOSU Music Office at 580.774.3708 or email email@example.com.
