Slemp Selected for N.E.W. Leadership Institute
Southwestern Oklahoma State University sophomore Ashley Slemp of Gracemont is one of only 30 students selected to the 2007 N.E.W. Leadership Institute, which will be May 18-22 at the Carl Albert Congressional Center in Norman.
The institute is a five-day residential program for undergraduate women and is designed to educate, inspire and empower women to become political leaders. Selections are made through a competitive application process.
Slemp is one of two SWOSU students selected for the honor. Ashley Hyneman will also attend.
I am very excited about attending N.E.W. Leadership,” Slemp said. “It is such a great opportunity. Only 30 women from across the state are chosen, so it is truly a great honor.
Slemp is majoring in political science and minoring in psychology. She is active on the SWOSU campus, serving as resident advisor at Stewart Hall, president of the Political Science Association and secretary of special projects for the Student Government Association. She was 2006-07 SWOSU Homecoming queen and is active in Alpha Phi Sigma honor fraternity.
