Miss SWOSU's Oklahoma Star Wins Service Award
Seven-year-old Ashlynn Brooke Karlin, who is the Oklahoma Star for the Miss SWOSU Pageant, has won a Community Service Project Award at this week’s Miss Oklahoma Pageant.
Karlin won the award at Thursday’s noon luncheon in Tulsa for a fund-raising project that she did to help one of her first-grade classmates. Malachi Struthers of Weatherford has been battling cancer, and Karlin came up with a project to help raise money for the family. She made bracelets and raised over $650. She then accompanied the family on a shopping spree in Weatherford.
Other Oklahoma Stars, Miss Oklahoma candidates, and friends and supporters of the candidates were in attendance when Karlin was presented the award.
The Oklahoma Star mentoring program is designed to expose girls from ages 6-11 to outstanding young women as role models.
Karlin is the daughter of Mike and Angie Karlin of Weatherford.
