SWOSU Announces Panorama Series for 2007-08
July 6, 2007
An outdoor concert featuring bands from California and Florida and the return of a popular acrobatic troupe highlight the 2007-08 Panorama series at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Four events are planned during the year, according to Panorama Committee Chairman Brian Adler. They are:
- October 4--Bands Switchfoot and Anberlin along with Comedian/Guitarist Chris Dowell
- November 13--Ann Simonton on "Sex, Power & the Media"
- February 14--Peking Acrobats
- March 11--Comedian Josh Blue
All events begin at 7:30 p.m. and all events will be at the Fine Arts Center except the outdoor concert, which will be at Milam Stadium on the SWOSU campus.
The October 4 concert will feature bands Switchfoot of San Diego, Calif., and Anberlin of Winter Haven, Fla. Sandwiched in between the two bands will be a performance by comedian/guitarist Chris Dowell of Norman who was a popular opening act for last spring’s Pauly Shore event at SWOSU.
Ann Simonton, former supermodel and founder of Media Watch (a non-profit media literacy organization) will speak November 13. She travels internationally and is one of the nation’s leading authorities on the effects of media images.
Back by popular demand, the Peking Acrobats transform 2,000-year-old traditions of agility and grace into a modern day kaleidoscope of entertainment and wonder. The brightly costumed tumblers, acrobats, cyclists, jugglers and clever clowns provide a fun and entertaining evening. They will appear at SWOSU on Valentine’s Day, February 14. The Peking Acrobats last appeared at SWOSU in 2004.
The final Panorama event of the 2007-08 year will be a performance by comedian Josh Blue, who won season four of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Blue, who has cerebral palsy, has been a fast-rising star since first appearing on Comedy Central’s Mind of Mencia before gaining the attention and endearment of the country as a favorite and eventual winner of Last Comic Standing.
Tickets for the outdoor concert go on sale July 30. Advance tickets for the event are $20 for SWOSU students and $25 for non-SWOSU students. Advance tickets for groups of 15 or more are $20. All tickets at the door will be $30.
