Mainers to Emcee Miss SWOSU Pageant This Saturday
Alison Mainers, a former Miss SWOSU and first runner-up at the Miss Oklahoma Pageant, will serve as emcee at this year’s Miss SWOSU Pageant this Saturday, October 27, on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Weatherford.
The pageant, which is a preliminary pageant for the Miss Oklahoma/Miss America pageants, will feature seven SWOSU contestants. The pageant begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center.
Mainers, originally from McLoud, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from SWOSU in 2002. It was during her time at SWOSU that she began competing in the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant organization.
On her third attempt (and after being crowned Miss Queen of the West 2001 in Elk City), Mainers was crowned Miss SWOSU in 2002. Later that year at the Miss Oklahoma Pageant, she finished as first runner-up and won over $20,000 in scholarship money. Her scholarship winnings throughout her five years of competition amounted to nearly $50,000.
After positions at the OU Health Sciences Center in student affairs and Chesapeake Energy in corporate communications, Mainers now lives in Norman and works as the development officer for the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. She also serves as the chair elect for the Stars of Education Committee with the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation and is an active member on the Miss University of Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant board. She was recently selected for the 2007-2008 Leadership Norman class and is active within the Norman Chamber of Commerce.
Advance tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and individuals with an SWOSU I.D. card. All tickets at the door are $10. Advance tickets are available in Room 205 of the SWOSU Administration Building; Room 207 of the Stafford Center; and from all contestants.
Contestants this year are: Ashley Bledsoe, Altus; Amber Caudill, Duncan; Alison Creach, Hammon; Jessica Renee Hilderbrand, Perry; London McCarthey, Oklahoma City (Westmoore); Bobbi Poff, Elk City; and Rebecca Witt, Tipton.
The winner of this year’s pageant will become the 50th Miss SWOSU. The pageant board is hosting a reunion of former title holders and several activities are planned during the day.
