SWOSU Homecoming Parade Plans Being Finalized for November 3
Deadline for entry forms for this year’s Southwestern Oklahoma State University Homecoming parade is coming up Monday, October 29. The parade is Saturday, November 3, at 3 p.m. in downtown Weatherford.
This year’s parade will not only be a celebration of SWOSU but Oklahoma’s Centennial as well. Theme for the event is “Year of the Dawg: Duke Salutes Oklahoma’s Centennial!”
Parade entry forms are available by calling the SWOSU Public Relations & Marketing Office at 580.774.3063 or stopping by Room 205 of the Administration Building. Forms are also available at the Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce office, located at Weatherford City Hall, and American Insurance Group, 301 N. Washington, in Weatherford.
Float entries are not limited to university organizations, so entries are welcome from area civic organizations and businesses. The winning float entry will win $1,300, while second place is worth $800. The third place winner will receive $500. And, as an added bonus this year, Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce’s Centennial Committee, chaired by Bruce Lewis, will provide $400 for fourth place, $300 for fifth place, $200 for sixth place and $100 for seventh place.
Many activities are planned during Homecoming including a reunion of the 1977 SWOSU Apple Bowl football team; a 5K Dawg Run; Dawg Fest Classic Car Show; alumni awards reception; chili cook-off; volleyball game; and football game.
