October 26, 2007
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Chemistry Department has planned a reception, lunch and open house for chemistry alumni and friends during SWOSU’s Homecoming celebration on Saturday, November 3.
As part of the event, the department plans to host a retirement reception for three faculty members who gave a combined 100 years of service to the university. Honorees are Dr. Karen McGurk, Dr. Don McGurk and Dr. Allen Lane.
Dr. William Kelly, chair of the department, said the open house will showcase the recently-completed Chemistry, Pharmacy, Physics Building renovations and the acquisition of several state-of-the-art research instrumentation such as the Bruker 300 Megahertz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer and the Shimadzu Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer.
A short dedication ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. and Chemistry Club members will give tours of the facilities throughout the morning.
The reception and lunch will be at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Student Ballroom. Following a meet and greet hour, a buffet of barbeque beef brisket and grilled chicken with all the fixings will be served. A short awards ceremony is planned after the meal.
Everyone is invited but the department asks that individuals attending the reception/lunch call (580) 774-3266 or (580) 774-3202 or email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org to make reservations.
