SWOSU Industrial Tech Program Receives Continuing Accreditation

December 19, 2007

Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s industrial technology program on the Weatherford campus has received national accreditation once again from the National Association of Industrial Technology.

Dr. Gary Bell, chair of the SWOSU Department of Industrial and Engineering Department, said the accreditation of the program is through November 1, 2009. The SWOSU accreditation team submitted a report to NAIT and then visited with NAIT accreditation officials at the national conference in Florida this past October.

“The accrediting board accepted our report with no additional requirements for our next on-site visit in 2009,” Bell said. “I appreciate the willingness of our faculty and administration in making this accreditation possible.”

SWOSU’s IT program gained first-time national accreditation in 2005. SWOSU’s  program is the only NAIT-accredited program in the state of Oklahoma.

“It’s important for SWOSU to maintain national accreditations in as many programs as possible,” SWOSU President John Hays said. “Accreditation is one more external source that validates the success of a program.”

SWOSU has been a leading academic institution among universities in Oklahoma. SWOSU has 15 nationally-accredited academic programs—the most among Oklahoma’s regional universities.
