Course on Native American Youth Culture Planned at SWOSU
A special course entitled “Enhance Education of Native American Youth” will be held at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford on March 7-8. Deadline to register for the college credit course is February 8.
Ruth Boyd of the SWOSU Department of Education said the course is designed to provide insight and understanding of the culture of Native American, Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes and the effect of that culture on the educational experiences of Cheyenne-Arapaho youth.
Instructor for the two-day course is Dr. Henrietta Mann, president of the newly-established Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribal College that is housed at SWOSU. The course will include a trip to Cheyenne to view the Battle of the Washita historical site.
The course will be held on Friday evening, March 7, from 6-10 p.m. and on Saturday, March 8, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. A registration form and fee of $182 (books and course fees) must be postmarked by February 8. There is also tuition for the two-hour course.
