Webb Wins SWOSU Patient Counseling Competition
Southwestern Oklahoma State University pharmacy student Sheldon Webb of Cordell recently won a patient counseling competition on the SWOSU campus in Weatherford.
Webb, who is a fourth-year pharmacy student currently doing pharmacy rotations in the Tulsa area, will now advance to a national competition sponsored by the American Pharmaceutical Association.
The Southwestern Pharmacy Association (SWPhA) sponsored the local competition among 16 SWOSU pharmacy students.
In the competition, Dr. Nina Morris, advisor for SWPhA, wrote a scenario on a drug and the students were asked to provide counsel. The students had five minutes to look up information on the drug. The students then had five minutes to counsel the patient.
The competition was judged by a pharmacist at the Clinton Indian Health Hospital. The top 10 finishers each received a drug information text book.
Webb will compete at the APhA national meeting on March 14-17 in San Diego.
